(Fornebu, 1 March 2016) Telenor Maritim Radio will change its name to Telenor Kystradio on 1 March. Its main goal remains ensuring safety at sea for both recreational and commercial vessels.

Through the change of name from Telenor Maritim Radio to Telenor Kystradio, Telenor wishes to emphasise that the company continues to offer relevant emergency and safety services up and down Norway’s coast and seas as far north as Svalbard. Telenor Kystradio cooperates closely with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centres in the north and south, and together these organisations represent the most important bodies in ensuring safety at sea.

Modern and flexible
The company is now also initiating the modernisation of its technical platform and infrastructure, with modern IP solutions and full fall-back solutions. The result will be an extremely modern coastal radio system with better functionality and far greater flexibility.
‘The risk of downtime for radio stations will be significantly reduced compared with the current system,’ says Terje Hammer, Head of Telenor Kystradio.

‘Norway has a long and arduous coast with a sizeable recreational and fishing fleet, as well as one of the worlds biggest foreign fleets and substantial offshore activity. Through its emergency and safety services at sea, Telenor Kystradio plays both an important and necessary role for everyone working and travelling in the maritime environment. Our main goal is to guarantee customers’ maritime communications with relevant emergency and safety services and that this is available 24 hours a day for both recreational and commercial vessels,’ Terje Hammer concludes.
