Bergen bakery testing out new digital solution with Telenor

(Bergen, 15 May 2017) Baker Brun in Bergen are one of the first businesses in Norway to digitalise their myriad of forms and papers, collecting all control and routine tasks in a new app. Data that used to gather dust in binders is now put to valuable use to help increase business efficiency.

“Every day, several forms need to be filled out, both in production and in our shops. We are committed to running things as intelligently as possible. Great tools help us save time and gain a better overview and quick access to data – which again helps increase efficiency,” says Ove Bruntveit, managing director of Baker Brun in Bergen.

He demonstrates their use of the new app, which makes it possible to document tasks which used to be recorded in binders. If the Food Safety Authority comes by for an audit, checklists can be easily generated with relevant data regarding cleaning, stock receipt and control as well as temperature measurements.

Tangible evidence of digitalisation

“Everyone is talking about digitalisation, but many find it difficult to really grasp the concept – which is why it is good to see Baker Brun utilising new technology and digital solutions for simple day-to-day routine tasks, which most people working in shops and service will recognise,” says Telenor CEO Sigve Brekke.

The new app, which collects the business’ data in the cloud, is called “Kontroll” (“Control”). It is developed by NEW in collaboration with Telenor. For Baker Brun employees in Bergen, the app shows up as “Min baker” (“My baker”) in their display, and in it they find documentation and guidance.

Connecting the refrigeration room to the web and app

“We will save time by performing these tasks digitally. We are also testing temperature sensors in our refrigeration and freezer rooms, so that we always know what temperature our products are kept in. If the temperature rises, we will receive an alert allowing us to take quick action,” says Bruntveit.
The readings will happen continuously, not just 2 or 3 times per day.

“This pilot project is carried out in the pastry shop, and if it is a success, we will consider bringing it to our bakeries as well.”
The project combines simple digital self-service with the Internet of Things, where sensors submit data straight to the app.
“We in Telenor need to ensure our customers get access to services like this, allowing them to focus on making quality products and spend as little time as possible on routine tasks involving pen and paper,” says Brekke.
