Telenor Summer Internship program 2019

WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP SO FAR?

This internship has enabled me to work with brilliant people from both Telenor and the internship program. I have been working on a project closely linked to Telenor’s operations, and the possibility of exploring new technology in this manner is thrilling. The combination of applying what you have learned from university in a professional environment is invaluable.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A POTENTIAL EMPLOYER?

I want to work for a company that makes a difference. A company that leads the way while giving back to society. I want to work for a company that has a clear vision and values aligned with mine. A company that is on top of their industry and allows me to thrive in a positive work environment. My future employer should invest in their employees to help them reach their full potential.

BEST PIECE OF PROFESSIONAL ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?

"If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room." I believe surrounding yourself with people you look up to is excellent advice. Whether they’re smarter than you, more talented than you or work harder than you, it doesn’t matter.

WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP SO FAR?

Everyone at Telenor has greeted us very warmly. People are curious to get to know us and listen to our points of view, which contributes to a feeling of belonging. I've been working on a 5G project, which is very exciting as 5G of high relevance both worldwide and Telenor. Also, I have been fortunate enough to apply the knowledge from my studies on an interdisciplinary case, connecting the business perspective that I have from my studies to technology.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A POTENTIAL EMPLOYER?

To me, it is important that the workplace enables professional growth, as well as being an arena of learning. Especially, I find positions combining different disciplines, like IT and economics, attractive. Culture is important, too; it should be a place where co-workers wants to bring out the best in each other, and work as a team to achieve results.

BEST PROFESSIONAL ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?

Hard to point out one but maybe the most important advice is as trivial as daring to ask questions. "Not daring to ask questions that might seem stupid bites you in the end!"

WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP AT TELENOR SO FAR?

One aspect of interning at Telenor that I have enjoyed so far is the high level of trust and responsibility that each intern is endowed with. Another aspect I enjoy is the people. From day one, I get to work alongside people who share many of the same values of working smart and being challenged.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A POTENTIAL EMPLOYER?

While there are many factors to consider in a potential employer, the foremost factor that I consider is the opportunity to be challenged and solve complex problems. While tackling challenges is fun on its own, it’s even better when it’s with a diverse and resilient team.

WHAT'S THE BEST PIECE OF PROFESSIONAL ADVICE YOU'VE RECEIVED?

My grandfather, one of my crucial role models in life, demonstrated the importance of helping those around you succeed. Not because of the expectation of others to return the favour, but because creating a positive atmosphere that allows everyone to collectively perform at a higher level generates something inherently good that’s bigger than just the sum of its parts.

Know your data! 80% of time is spent preparing and working on the data and less than 20% working with the models.
